”In these days of litigation, it is vitally important that Schools get the best impartial HR and Employment Law advice that they can. One of the major effects of using an experienced HR Advisory Team is that litigation is kept to a minimum and pragmatic, non legalistic solutions reached. Increasingly, HR in Schools is about managing risk. At times of increased budget pressures and increasing numbers of Schools ceasing to be ‘maintained’ , it is vital that Schools receive advice that they are confident in from practitioners who understand how Schools work, teachers’ Terms and Conditions of Employment, as well as how Local Authorities operate. If you are a maintained School, the Local Authority is responsible for many employment-related costs (liabilities) – the so called ‘Compensatory Authority’. For non-maintained Schools and Academies, where the Local Authority is not the Compensatory Authority and the School is responsible for litigation costs, it is even more critical that sound advice is received.”

SHREC is fundamentally different from ‘typical’ HR service providers to education:

We understand the specific HR issues that Schools face – we are not HR generalists.

The School Improvement Agenda is at the heart of our work.

We integrate our activities with the priorities of the School Leadership Team and Governors.

We don’t just advise on policies and procedures – we undertake the work for you, giving you both options and outcome predictions.

We work with Trade Union colleagues and not against them in any adversarial fashion.

We aim for long term collaborative relationships with Schools and Trade Union colleagues.

Most Schools ask us to be part of the School Management Team, leading on all School HR issues.

We understand the ‘bigger’ School agenda and the implications of HR interventions for the wider School workforce.

Unlike other providers in the market:

We are NOT owned by shareholders.

We operate as a co-operative mutual and our aim is to reinvest any surplus into ensuring we maintain high quality service provision to all our School customers.

We want our employees to share in our success and our values proposition.

We will also be supporting local community initiatives as part of our ongoing commitment to act as a co-operative.
